FEMA Flood Plain Map Published

After a 5 year mapping program, FEMA has released the new Digital Flood Plain Map for Fort Bend County.   This is a free resource for the general public, and may be viewed on the Internet using most Web browsers.

The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Program, in Fort Bend County, is part of an ongoing project of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  The current online version of the map is marked “preliminary”.

Visitors to the Internet site may search the map by address to see if their property lies within the new flood plain boundaries.  The digital map shows elevation in 2 foot contour increments, and has multiple layers of graphics and aerial photos.   Although this map may help in assessing the general risk of flooding in certain areas, property owners should consult with their insurance company regarding their specific insurance coverage and rates.
