4/26/2013 – On Friday, April 26, 2013 the Transportation Policy Council (TPC) approved amendments to the 2013-2016 TIP and 2035 RTP committing $545 million of roadway mobility funding for projects on US 290, SH 146 and US 59 S in Harris, Galveston and Fort Bend Counties.
The TPC also agreed with the City of Conroe and The Woodlands Township’s request to program $270,000 of federal transit formula funds apportioned to their urbanized area.
Federal funds in the amount of $800,000 were programmed for the continuation of incident management services along major highways through the Harris County Sheriff’s Motorist Assistance Program (MAP).
An update to the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) to allocate FTA 5307 funding for transit planning in Conroe and The Woodlands, and to revise the Fort Bend County Thoroughfare Plan was approved.
The TPC unanimously selected over $400 million in highway, mass transit, bicycle/pedestrian and clean air projects from the 2013-2016 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Call for Projects. Approximately $50 million remains available through FY 2016 to support additional regional priorities.
The candidate projects still under consideration include a proposed busway on Post Oak Boulevard, transit centers in Bellaire and Missouri City, and other transit and bicycle trail and path projects. A recommendation to program these remaining
funds is expected to be available for TPC action at their May or June meeting. TPC also approved TxDOT’s Functional Classification changes to roadways in the eight-county region.
Furthermore, the TPC supported TxDOT as the designated recipient of FTA
Section 5310 funds for FY 2013. This designation will advance transportation services for seniors and persons with disabilities by allowing TxDOT to award funds based on funding requests already submitted and under consideration.
